This work is based on a Bahamian nursery rhyme/song of the same name. This song is saying in the same manner that children sing “Ring around the rosy” or “London bride is falling down.” Yet, many of these songs are not recorded as they are believed to be primarily for children. The last time Bahamian folklore was officially recorded in the 1930’s by Zora Neale Hurston the author and anthropologist famous for the novel “Their Eyes Were Watching God.”

There is an unfortunate ephemeral nature of Bahamian culture and history. As a small country most of its literature and folktales have not been recorded. This leads to problems such as old stories and songs disappearing. These are kept alive through a strong musical and oral history that keeps certain stories alive.
